No-limit Texas Holdem poker players claim that slow playing strategy is such technique that will help you to get the most out of your hand. However, slow play can be dangerous as well. Some points should be taken into account. Firstly, your hand should be good. Secondly, your strong hand might be taken down by a weaker one if the execution is incorrect.
The main idea of the strategy basically consists in deceiving your opponents. They barely think that you have a weak hand, though you don't. By giving them kind of confidence that their hands are much stronger, your opponent bets into your winning hand. Anyway, you should be very careful about your acting as slow play assumes taking risk. Your risk can be less significant if your hand is very strong and the chances of your opponent having a winning hand are minimal.
The strategy is based on skipping a raising at that betting round and waiting until a later one to raise. When making a smaller bet than usual you make your opponents think you're bluffing. That's just what the doctor ordered. If the players fall for your trap, be sure you'll get a bigger pot.
Lastly, it needs to be added that slow play is never 100% successful. The tactics requires giving your opponent a chance to see your card, which means he/she may catch a stronger hand and win it.
