Texas Holdem strategy - Turn play

The turn is the penultimate stage in Texas Hold'em poker, that's why all your actions will influence the outcome of the game. On the turn the bets are doubled and you should have a winning hand or an excellent drawing hand to continue. By the time of the turn stage, you have 6 cards, what means that you will be able to compare your hand to the hands of your opponents. Generally speaking, if you're confident of your hand don't be afraid to raise in order to save it. If your hand is not the best forget about raising. There is a rule you must always keep in mind - know when it's better to fold.

Furthermore, if you've decided to draw on the river, then stay in if you don't have to bet too much though. Your opponents might be looking to draw on the river as well. In this case you should pick a strategy of raising heavily so that your opponents pay for the privilege.

When playing on the turn you should be very careful about your moves. It's such a crucial stage as everything you do here will be setting up what happens after the river. Players are advised to bet big when having an excellent hand, what will set them up well for the river.

Playing on the turn supposes having a hard time folding on the river. Hence the name 'the turn'. It's your turning point in the hand.
